For heavy editing I would highly recommend connecting a physical keyboard through bluetooth or a dock like the Transformer Prime tablets. Just got my SP4 this week and am loving it so far - except I miss a friggin Toshiba note taking app, Trunote my other tablet is an Encore 2 Write. The software analyzes pen strokes written in the designated WritePad area, then converts those pen strokes into text and sends the recognized text to the target application. Unless you are a former Palm user, you need to learn the pen strokes but this is a way to use a stylus or your finger in every app. It stands to reason that you want to protect that digital information. The Kindle Fire works far better with a tablet stylus than the Nook Color ever did, which makes writing feel more natural. I once timed myself at about 35 words per minute, which is slow on a computer keyboard, but it feels about as fast as I can go on a handheld device. You can organize notes by folders and everything is searchable. I scrapped the idea for the video, because the only thing I could say was using a stylus and Nook Color in combination is a horrible idea. It does its job quite well, but I am not very patient with office packages on my phone and though I have it installed, I try to avoid using my phone for that sort of thing. When I tested them with the Nook Tablet, my experience was the same. You can see how I use Handrite Note in combination with Evernote in the video embedded below, but I have a new favorite handwriting app. Other cloud services are not currently supported but that might change in the future.

Holding the Kindle Fire in one hand while using my finger or a stylus is considerably faster. The OneNote app actually. The app handles my scribbles like a champ, automatically converting them to text.

Jotter is the most appropriate tool to write a note on an iPhone or an iPad.

I think if you are looking for a simple writing app that gets the job done but is designed well and still has basic function then this might be the way to go. You will need to change the settings on your Fire though to accept third party apps because oddly, it is not available through Google Play. Evernote Evernote is by far one of the best and most popular note taking apps on Android and the web. But to truly get the most out of your tablet at some point productivity becomes important.

Most of us have used the traditional color sticky notes that end up on documents, paper, and fridges as a reminder. In order to get it you would need to root your Kindle Fire and sideload the apps.

This is a great option who are heavy Gmail users and want their notes along with their email. The right pane shows your document along with some basic info like last updated date, backups, and word count. One of the better apps for handwritten notes is definitely Handrite Notes. For a small fee, you can upgrade to premium which means more space, the ability to work offline, text search and access earlier versions of notes. The Targus, and BoxWave models look like they could be the same stylus with a different label on it. Guess what? Their most recent app takes the same handwriting functionality of the Notes Mobile app and lets you use it system-wide on your Android device, replacing the keyboard. There are options to undo and redo along with a night mode. If all you want to do is save handwritten notes you can refer to later, Handrite Note Pro is still my favorite option.

The net result after a bunch of experimenting is something I hope everyone will find useful in using handwriting for text input on a Kindle Fire tablet.
